Mohamed Diame is seemingly on the verge of joining Al Gharafa following his release from Newcastle United.

Diame turned out on 29 occasions for the Magpies last season but was not offered a new deal by Rafa Benitez’s side.

The 31-year-old looks set for a lucrative move to Qatar, though, and the Newcastle fans have been on social media offering their views on the situation.

It was perhaps a bit of a surprise that the Magpies allowed a player of Diame’s experience and indeed quality to leave on a free transfer.

However, the club have bigger fish to fry at the moment as head coach Benitez’s future is far from secure as talk of a potential takeover continues.

Diame is well out of it, though, as he nears a switch to the Qatar Stars League
